2008 Mustang Order Guides set the stage for another carry over year.
05-01-07: Production starts soon for the 2008 Ford Mustang and dealers are now beginning to place their first orders. Ford released the 2008 Ford Mustang and 2008 Ford Shelby GT-500 Order Guides last week, which give us a factual window into what is in store.
For the most part, 2008 is another carry over year with little if any changes in the Mustang overall. What is significant however are some new colors, options and standard features. It seems that Ford is adding what’s necessary to keep the car selling but is saving their efforts for the 2009-2010 redesign.
We are also disappointed to see that the 2008 Bullitt is not in the cards at this point but will likely be added later in the model year as a special edition. You may remember that Ford’s Mark Fields made an official announcement last year that the Bullitt would return on 2008.
Three new colors are being introduced. Vapor Clearcoat Metallic, Dark Candy Apple Red Clearcoat Metallic and Silver Clearcoat Metallic replace Tungsten, Redfire and Satin Silver. Again, nothing groundbreaking here, just differing shades of the existing colors. While we have seen photos of test colors like Grabber Blue, it looks like that must be a later thing too.

For the first time, high intensity discharge (HID) headlights will be available as an option on the Mustang, across the board. This has been on the top of the enthusiast wish list for some time as most modern sport oriented cars offer them. Also, a cool new ambient interior lighting option is now on the list which Ford expects to be popular as well. Side impact airbags are now standard equipment instead of optional.
Also new on the option list is a the top quality cloth convertible top that has previously only been available on the GT-500. Now you can order your V6 or Mustang GT with the more upscale material. A satin plated aluminum fuel door option is now on the docket too along with two new wheel designs, including an 18" forged wheel for V6 models.
A new “Warriors in Pink” special edition package as previously reported on will be available as a special order. The package will be available in Performance White, Ebony or Silver and will feature metallic pink rocker striping. The interior will have the upgraded GT leather trim with contrasting pink stitching. The pony emblem will be replaced by the “Warriors in Pink” pink ribbon with a pony at the center.
The “Warriors in Pink” package will only be available on V6 Premium Mustangs in coupe or convertible, with the Pony Package and automatic transmission. This must mean that Ford expects that only women will be interested in this package, and that they only like V6’s and automatics.
Engines, transmissions are all carryover including the 4.0 liter SOHC 210 hp V6, 4.6 liter SOHC 4.6 300 hp V8 and the Shelby GT-500's 5.4 liter DOHC supercharged and intercooled 500 hp V8.
