10-29-08: Ford is showing us how much time and effort it has put into the details of the 2010 Mustang. In their sometimes made fun of way of late, they are forcing us actually to look at every little nook and cranny of the car first, before seeing the big picture. This exercise is proving successful in assuring that none of their painstaking sweat and toil gets missed when we see the final product in total.
The new 2010 Ford Mustang interior has been unveiled to us and told to us to be miles above the current car in quality, touch, and feel. This week, we are shown more of the console and center stack. While not much more is revealed than before it does show some much more attractive switchgear, chrome accents and better materials.
Ford’s new corporate “poke through” HVAC and radio control units make their debut in the Mustang. They have already shown up in most of the other models including the Edge, Escape, Focus, and Flex. The new controls have a very high quality tactile feel and work well.
The only thing some Mustang enthusiasts will not be happy about is that this new format will make swapping out the stereo for an aftermarket unit will be nearly impossible. Of course in time the audio manufacturers will offer up installation kids with new bezels and backing plates to make the mainstream products work, but it will take time.
