1970 Mustang

The last year for what many enthusiast’s call the Mustang’s glory days, the 1970 models built upon the muscle car foundation set in the previous year with more to offer buyers. All new “grabber” colors and a myriad of new interior trim options joined the list of choices a buyer could make when ordering their new Mustang. Engine options remained largely the same however with exception of the 390 FE V8 which was dropped.

Styling of course was revised on the front, sides and rear but it was evolutionary. Gone were the side scoops, creating a clean appearance on all body styles. The front end went back to a dual headlamp arrangement with an unconventional inboard mounting scenario and turn signals located in a creative set of vanes located outboard.


The rear taillight panel was now flat with large tail lamp units with deep inset lenses. Mach 1 Mustangs got a bright rocker panel trim set with aluminum grille pattern and chrome Mach 1 emblems inset. Shaker hood scoops continued as a sought after option as well. Tape stripe packages were more prevalent than ever.

Inside only minor changes were made including the relocation of the ignition switch to the steering column as we know cars today, complete with a locking feature. The trim could now be had in a variety of vinyl, cloth, patterned cloth and vinyl combinations. Groovy.
