First Mods To The 2011 Mustang 5.0

Many Mustang owners who have already ordered their new 2011 Mustang GT with the long awaited 412hp 5.0 V8 are already looking for parts to mod their cars. The question is how long will it take for new go-fast parts for the Mustang 5.0 to hit the market?

We already know the answer from some quarters. Ford Racing already has a supercharger system that will be on the market almost as soon as the cars are available. This supercharger has already been seen in the 2011 Shelby GT-350 Mustang that broke cover last January as a prototype. It is believed that this combination will be good for at least 500-550hp in base trim.

With Ford Racing you know that the same level of development and engineering that went into the Mustang to start with is behind the parts. And that same level of engineering and OEM development will be found in the soon to arrive ROUSHchargers.

Roush has already stated they will have their supercharger system for the new 2011 Mustang 5.0 by summertime. The first generation will appear in the new 2011 Roush Mustang 427R according to the company. Additionally, you will be able to buy the package through your local Roush parts retailer to install yourself.

Like the Ford Racing supercharger, the ROUSH charger is likely to put you in the 500-550hp territory pretty easily. And with the new 2011 Mustang 5.0 engine coming from the factory with a forged crankshaft, we should be able to power into that level without blowing our motors apart.

Roush is also likely to have a TVS 2300 version of their ROUSH charger system available later down the line for even more horsepower. Roush however has not given any indicators in when that may occur and what if any engine modifications would need to be done to keep it in one piece.

From our confidential sources we can also tell you without being specific that most of the big brands we know who make exhaust, engine dress-up, chassis and other components are already dialling in their new lines of parts made specifically for the new 2011 Mustang 5.0.

Our recommendation to those lucky new owners who begin taking delivery of their new 2011 Mustang 5.0 this spring is don’t rush into modding the car immediately unless you are well familiar with the brand and parts themselves. While it is tempting to get the first things that hit the market, if you can hold out until the fall you will likely have a lot more choice and you will have the benefit of reading up on the failures of others who might find out that the latest greatest engine widget isn’t all that.

Also, be careful about manufactures who tell you their parts from the 2005-2010 Mustang will fit. Obviously styling, brakes, and most suspension parts will be interchangeable. But some things like springs may be best recalibrated for the new weight of the 2011 Mustang 5.0 for best handling. Also, exhaust systems may be best chosen based on being specific to the 2011 and newer cars.

One thing is for sure, by the time the 2010 SEMA Show takes place in November, we will have a host of new parts on the market for the 2011 Mustang 5.0. We will of course be on site when show time comes to cover and report on all the new goodies made for the new pony.
