First look: 2013 Roush RS Mustang V6

Potentially costing just under $27,000, Roush has just unveiled a new entry level Mustang package for 2013. Based on the 2013 Mustang V6, the new Roush RS or “Roush Six” package receives an array of the company’s trademark styling and handling components.

Gary Jurick, General Manager of Roush Performance, states “The RS opens a new niche for Roush Performance, offering great fuel economy, a good level of power, at an economical price, while still embodying Roush’s spirit of performance.”

The RS starts with 19″ premium painted aluminum wheels and tires, the very same found on the factory Ford Mustang GT with track package. The stock suspension gets tossed for a set of Roush springs and progressive rate jounce bumper which will lower the car approximately one inch. All of which gives the Roush RS a lower center of gravity, quicker steering response and more road feel.

You also get Roush body trim including high flow upper and lower grilles, front chin splitter, side rocker splitters and rear deck lid spoiler. You can also option items like the hood scoop and quarter window trim as shown in the photos. And it would not be a true Roush without a host of Roush badges and graphics.

Inside you get Roush embroidered floor mats, billet performance pedals and a Roush center console badge/button. Optional RS interior upgrades include GT charcoal leather seating or Roush sport leather seating along with white or black shifter ball and the suede wrapped performance steering wheel. Logo door sill plates are available with ambient lighting.

“We are excited to offer a Roush package for all levels of the Ford Mustang line up,” says Tim Wheeler, VP, Sales and Marketing of Roush Performance. “The RS will address the Mustang V6 owner that is looking for the Roush touch off the showroom floor.” Great fuel economy, great price point, great fun, the Roush RS Mustang.

While some Mustang enthusiasts might scoff, this isn’t the first time Roush has offered a V6 Mustang. The very first Roush Mustangs based on the SN-95 platform were available in a V6. Moreover when you consider the current V6 offers the same horsepower as the 2005-2009 Mustang GT V8 based Roush Stage 1 and Stage 2, this is a performance car of equal measure.

Best of all, the new Roush RS package starts at $4,000. This means that when you consider the 2013 Mustang starts at $22,200, you could have a brand new Roush Mustang in your driveway for under $27,000.
