First Look: 2018 Mustang is revealed!

Ford today showed off their refreshed 2018 Mustang, with several changes in styling, new interior features, and most importantly some heavily updated powertrains.

Right up front the first thing you’ll notice is an all-new face with new grilles, a much lower hood and new fenders to with it. The hood gets new vents and standard now full LED headlights across the entire lineup. Down below in the redesigned front fascia are also available LED fog lights.

Those who weren’t fans of the rear view don’t get much relief though, as the big change is slightly redesigned LED tail lamps and a new lower fascia. A larger rear spoiler is available however and exhaust tips will now vary between the EcoBoost and 5.0 models, EcoBoost getting dual single tips and GT getting quad tips.

You’ll note I didn’t mention the V6 and that’s because it’s gone for 2018. The now base 2.3 liter EcoBoost gets enhanced with new over-boost controls that will significantly add torque but no increase in horsepower was mentioned as of yet.

The 5.0 liter V8 like the one in the 2018 Ford F-150 gets heavily revised now with both port and direct fuel-injection. Ford tells us both horsepower and torque are up significantly as is its redline. In both cases Ford hasn’t spilled us the specs.

Both engines will be available with an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission as we have been hearing. The ECU will includes multiple drive modes that with the steering wheel paddle shifters promises quick snappy shifting.

The six-speed manual for the Mustang GT also gets thoroughly redesigned to handle the extra power and torque and will include a new twin-disc clutch and dual-mass flywheel. And one more available goody for the Mustang GT will be an adjustable exhaust for your choice of sound, mild to wild.

Suspension has been massaged on all models with re tuned dampers and a new cross-axis joint in the independent rear suspension for better lateral stiffness. The Shelby GT350’s MagneRide damper system will now available across the Mustang lineup too.

The interior gets a mild makeover with new seating surface design, bolster stitching and shaping, and a soft touch covering for the hard center console – a bone thrown to the many who complained about bruised legs.

Ahead of the driver will now be available a new 12-inch full LCD instrument cluster that’s fully customizable. Able to be personalized with several different information sets and color combinations, it takes My Color to an entirely new level.

In a bid to keep up with the Joneses, the new 2018 Mustang will also be available with all the latest driver assistance and safety systems required to be eligible for a Top Safety Pick status from the IIHS including per-collision braking, lane-departure warning and assist, and several other features. System.

The 2018 Ford Mustang goes on sale here in North America later this fall with hopefully full and detailed horsepower and torque specifications very soon.
