Ford has issued a recall on 2017 Mustangs over a concern regarding a door handle return spring that could fail.

The recall covers about 6,000 Mustangs built just between January 13th and 31st of this year.

On affected cars the left-hand interior door handle return spring may have been installed incorrectly. This could cause the spring to become unseated and not return lever to home position.

The concern for safety purposes is that in a crash, such a condition could allow the door to open. Ford isn’t aware of any accidents regarding the matter.

Ford will contact owners and leasees to schedule an appointment to inspect the door handle for and incorrectly installed spring and correct the matter if need be.

Ford says there are approximately 5,756 affected Mustangs in North America, 20 of which are in Mexico and 266 in Canada. The Ford reference number for this recall is 17C04.
