| 01/17/07: Our favorite event is here once more. Barrett-Jackson is like an old freind that comes to visit at the beginning of each new year, kick starting the automotive carnival ride into high gear. Ahh, that feels good doesn't it.
In the past few years, the circus that is Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale has grown to be the wildest animal of the auto enthusiast jungle. The sheer gravity and energy of this event is growing more powerful each year, fast becoming the center of the universe relative to car collecting. Fortunes are made and lost, custom building and restoration trends are benchmarked, fads made and dispensed of. It's here where the weather is set for the rest of the year both coming down on what is hot and what is not. The event has the same alure and excitement of Las Vegas but without all the smut and sin. No man, this is cars cars cars!
The Big Three Automakers are now a major player here. Each manufacturer has a vested interest in assuring that their brand is held high, sold high, and in the spotlight. Ford and Shelby are the most visible example, now using the venue to promote new products and generate buzz in the collector world for their pursuits. This year is marked again with another new production Shelby Mustang on the block, the 2007 Shelby GT #001. Proceeds of the sale will go to the Carroll Shelby Children's Fund and will undoubtedly set a record. Round and round she goes, where she stops nobody knows.
Join us all this week as we cover the event daily. Sales prices will be posted at the end of each day in our Car List section. In addition we will be covering several aspects of the barnstorming event and bringing event highlights right here.
