SEMA 2007: 2008 Twister Special Mustang Package

Staff Report

R & A Motorsports puts together a retro special edtition true to form.

11-02-07: The Twister Special was born in 1970 then a dealer sales district in Kansas City had Ford build a sticker & stripe special package for 96 Mustangs. This special dealer region package was similar in spirit to the High Country and California Specials, but was more specific. The cars were available with the 428 SCJ engines, drag pack, heavy duty suspension and other high performance goods. They were meant for business and looked the part. Today the surviving Twister Special Mustangs are said to be some of the rarest of them all.

Fast forward to now, and a new Twister Special has been put together by R & A Motorsports in Lees Summit, Missouri. The modern day rendition of the classic is almost identical in character, sporting a grabber orange exterior and black graphics. R & A Motorsports says they will build only 96 cars, but the mix will include both convertibles and coupes.

The Twister Special package is loaded with 1 of a kind details. The functional ram air shaker has an engraved logo. The convertible has a CDC lightbar, headrest covers, and floor mats with the Twister Special logo embroidered on it. The coupe has an amazing view from the inside courtesy of the Glassback roof. Both cars have a center cap makeover with the Twister Special logo hand painted.

Most of the add on parts are courtesy of Classic Design Concepts including the Widows Peak Hood, centered headlight grill, sequential taillights, new spoiler front and rear. The chin spoiler, rockers, and rear bumper have a texturized black out. Underneath, a throatier exhaust by Ford Racing is fitted.

Customized Foose wheels have a hand painted Twister Special logo. Each car will have a customized dash plate with a registry number that will be documented by R&A Motorsports Inc. and carried on the twisterspecialregistry.com website. Each owner will also receive a cd/dvd documenting the making of their 2008 Twister Special.

All Twister Special Mustangs will only be built upon the base “Deluxe” Mustang GT’s to stay in tune with the original model in 1970. Although, the interior upgrade package and comfort group will be allowed.
The Twister Special package is a real value at only $12,995.
