01-19-08: At the 2007 Barrett-Jackson Auction we first saw the now collectible silver and black Fender Shelby GT special edition guitars posed with Mustangs at the Ford booth. At the time we asked Ford spokesmen about them and they remained tight lipped. Later in the year, it was announced that Ford and Fender were to collaborate on a special limited edition run of only 200 numbered Shelby GT guitars that sold out almost immediately. The guitars were a favorite of the owners of the Shelby GT Mustangs.
This year was dejavu all over again. Only this year there is a much larger presence by Fender at the Ford booth. On the stage was a beautiful black and gold Fender Stratocaster with GT-H “Hertz” livery on it. When asked, Ford personnel once again made no promises of production. But, it seems mighty alluring given that many people asked for such a guitar last year, when the other one was made.
It has however been announced that a limited edition Fender GT-500KR Stratocaster will be on sale starting on Monday the 21st of January. Although we dont have photos at this time, our partner site www.SteedShop.com will be the first to offer them when they come available.

But, there is more. While Fender guitars were sprinkled about the booth, one set up got our attention. There was a bright red Mustang GT with white stripes posed with a matching Fender guitar and “Fender” badging on the deck-lid. At the show, information was scant but it would appear that Ford and Fender are cooking up some more cross-promotion between the two brands.
Will it bring a special edition “Fender” Mustang? Will it mean another Mustang giveaway sweepstakes by Fender Guitar? In the coming year it would be pretty cool if Ford put together some special programs like this to keep the Mustang in the spotlight! It’s these little things that make the Barrett-Jackson event so tantalizing!
