Rehagen, StableOne Racing Join Miller Cup Mustang Series

Staff Report

Ford Racing's new Mustang racing series is locking in top teams for first season.

02-27-08: At the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) Convention in Las Vegas, Miller Motorsports Park, in partnership with Ford Racing, announced a new professional racing series that will provide competitors an affordable way to go racing with a V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive car.The eight-race series is sanctioned by the Grand American Road Racing Association (GrandAm) and features the brand-new Ford Mustang FR500S factory built race car.

We knew when we heard the news in Las Vegas last fall that this was going to be huge. Now that the innagural series opener is coming up on May 3rd at Road Atlanta, news of who will be participating is coming out almost daily. The series is attracting participants of all stripes from the big names we all know to upstart teams attracted by the easy to be price point of the series.

Well known for their campaigning in the Grand Am KONI Challenge, Rehagen Racing announced today that they will bring a 4-car team to contest. Rehagen will take delivery of the factory built race cars at the official launch for the series at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah on March 1.

“Given our experience with the new Mustang in other Grand Am sanctioned road racing events it only seemed natural that we contest for the Miller Cup with our current car owners and drivers Jim Click, Mike McGovern, and Jamie Slone. Completing our 4-car team will be car owner and driver Mike Harvison of the #11 USTEST Fuel Management Mustang FR500S, participant in both Porsche Club of America and Koni Challenge events. Our goal is to set the standard of performance in the series.

Considering this is a spec series we will rely on our preparation, and chassis setup expertise to give our drivers every opportunity to win races. We look forward to the challenge as there are many quality teams and drivers in this series,” said Dean Martin of Rehagen Racing. “We are thrilled that our car owners and drivers have chosen Rehagen Racing to provide them full racing services, technical and engineering support throughout the season in this new and exciting series.”

Jamie Slone, car owner and driver of the #6 GoPro, goprocamera.com, Mustang FR500S said; “All the car owners and drivers agreed that Rehagen was a natural choice with their many years of Mustang experience and success in the Grand Am Koni Challenge series! We are ecstatic to be with Rehagen and look forward to the sprint format of racing.” Rehagen Racing is lead by Larry Rehagen, a Ford Engineering Technical Specialist, and former Ford SVT chassis engineer Dean Martin.

Also joining the series is StableOne Racing. The newly-formed team, a subsidiary of StableOne Club, will field a three-car effort in the series. The cars will be maintained by Autohaus Motorsports, based in Delray Beach, Fla. StableOne Racing will also take delivery of their new cars in Tooele, Utah, on March 1.

“We are extremely excited to be part of this new racing series. Our goal is to compete at a high level and hopefully win the series,” said Bruce Stover, COO of StableOne Club. “To help us reach our goal, we have chosen Autohaus Motorsports to provide our team with race services, technical and engineering support for the season.”

The series will be incredibly competitive, with all the cars being created equal. “When you have a series with all the same racecars, the edge is gained from engineering setup, team performance and driver ability,” stated Nathan McBride, Executive Director of Autohaus Motorsports. “We are thrilled that StableOne Racing has chosen Autohaus Motorsports to give them that competitive advantage.”

StableOne Club, the parent company of StableOne Racing, is currently designing private country clubs in Washington D.C. and other cities across the United States that will offer car enthusiasts the opportunity to be part of a unique, cutting-edge experience. “Our concept for the club is unlike any other,” explained Andrew Hendricks, President of StableOne. “Members will have access to the finest exotic automobiles in the world, and will be able to drive them on our private road course 365 days a year.

“The launch of StableOne Racing is an exciting event for the company, one that will enhance all that we have to offer to our club members, and we are looking forward to the first green flag at Road Atlanta.”

The inaugural season of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup will kick off at Road Atlanta on May 3, 2008. This new series gives virtually anyone with an interest in professional racing the opportunity to enter the arena in a competitive, cost-controlled series.

The FR500S starts life as a production-line Ford Mustang, and is built on a special assembly line without the seats, carpet, noise insulation and other interior fitments that are normally included in a street car. The car is fitted with a full rollcage and shipped to Miller Motorsports Park, where final assembly -- including safety equipment and competition power and suspension upgrades -- is completed. A total of 77 cars have been built to date, and more will be built as demand dictates.

Priced at $75,000 race-ready, the 325-hp Ford Mustang FR500S is the first racing car in the long history of the Ford Motor Company to be built on an assembly line.
