Ford Motor Co. selected automotive designer and business owner Aaron Vaccar, of ACV Motorsports in Ohio, to develop a demo vehicle that displays the abilities of the next-generation 2010 Ford Fusion Sport.
Using his understanding of the youth market, Vaccar created the vehicle to highlight new product development possibilities and unveil the latest breed of customizable vehicles.
“Four-doors, AWD and a sporty engine setup—no, I’m not talking about one of my Subarus—this is the new Ford Fusion Sport, AWD model,” he said. “The Fusion Sport is a not a small sport compact car, yet it’s not a full-size sport coupe. It’s actually a perfect middle ground—the best of both worlds is excellently achieved with this vehicle, even in stock-trim.”
Vaccar, who has experience with sport compacts, noted that the market is expanding beyond traditional imports, and the Fusion Sport is a natural fit.
“This crowd is now more accepting and willing to look at the offerings of domestic vehicle manufacturers,” he said. “Some of them are getting a bit older, have a bit more disposable income and even families, so the thought of a larger-sized vehicle that they can still customize probably sounds just about right to them.”
Upgrades to the Fusion project car include an air intake system, sport cat-back exhaust and intercooled turbo kit from Turbo XS, Gaithersburg, Md., and a custom trunk housing a custom Air Lift air suspension kit, a load of MB Quart mobile audio goodies, as well as a full-size custom 20-inch spare hidden behind push-fit panels from S&L Customs, Cleveland.
Other participants include Vaccar’s online company ACVmailorder.com, Auto Meter, Canfield Customs, The Club, Deatschwerks, Ksport USA, NTB, Nutek Wheels, Portage Trim, Recaro and Stinger.
