SEMA 2009 Random Sightings: It aint just about Fords.....

Check out ALL of our RANDOM SIGHTINGS photos now.

We shot hundreds of photos and because we love all cars (not just Fords and Mustangs), a lot of other things caught our eyes. So we have a lot of what we call "Random Sightings" to share which are not Mustangs of Fords.

SEMA is about personalization, trends, new mods, and artistic expression. In that there are many examples to behold that show off the latest and greatest in the arena of custom cars, the products that you build them with, and the personalities who build them.

While the economy has been in the crapper this year, this year's SEMA show did not disappoint in the way of seeing some great new examples of creative thinking and artistry. From V-12 Detroit Diesel powered Peterbuilt Deuce Coupes to BOSS 351 powered mid-engined VW Beetles, it was nothing short of amazing.

There were some great convertible Dodge Challenger conversions all in a row, and a number of charitable cause cars like the Wounded Warrior Project Camaro. And speaking of Camaro, did you know these things are popular? They were the choice car this year for the customizers and parts manufacturers looking to show off their latest duds. Lots of Camaros.

And what about the trends this year? What is in the tea leaves for "what's hot for 2010"? Well we saw a few trends or that seemed to be prevalent this year.....

1) Body color or accent color outer rims on custom wheels. There were many designs that featured a bright or accent color "stripe" on the outer rim face that really sets off nicely against a dark or contrasting wheel color.

2) Flat and Satin finish paint jobs. These were hot this year on a number of high dollar show cars. The flat paint was often set off by high gloss stripes or graphics.

3) Body wraps. Custom looks are getting high tech with the convergence of high quality computer graphics capability and high durability vinyl. Many show cars that wowed us, wowed us twice when we found out the graphics and the panel treatments were stickers. They are durable and look as good as paint. They are easy to apply and can come off when you get tired of the look.
