At the SEMA Show we had the opportunity to visit with SMS, Steve Saleen’s new company, and talk at length with them about the new supercharger they have introduced.
Steve Saleen is forging ahead with his best innovations and design work yet with SMS Supercars. His passion is tenacious, his expertise without question. With the new company he has brought long time Saleen designer Phil Frank in full time to head up much of the design and engineering for their latest products.
Talking with Phil at the show, it was evident that their new supercharger system is the harbinger of things to come. This is not just another supercharger kit. With my personal experience with superchargers from ROUSH and previous generations of Saleen, I can say with some solidity that this new SMS 296 Supercharger will be a winner. It is high tech in some new ways with regard to its intake and intercooling. In fact, they have patents pending on the new dual intake design.
It is handsome, packaged well, and utilizes the Ford stock air box. Best yet, they have adopted a secondary belt accessory drive similar to that of some ROUSH supercharger systems. The secondary FEAD takes all the stress and shock off the accessory drive belt, using a second belt and pulley specifically for the supercharger. This gives much more refinement and prolongs the life of the accessories, the engine, and last but not least the belt. Check the out the photos of that six-pack intercooler too. It’s just cool
