2010 Mustang Rear View Unveiled

Just one week before the official unveiling of the new 2010 Ford Mustang, we get one last teaser photo. The rear quarter of the next Mustang is far more shapely and modern than before. It features a deep sculptured concave rear panel similar in character to the 1967-1969 era Mustangs but the trapezoidal tail-lamp cuts a new buzz into it.

Overall, the fit and finesse looks well done. Some might say the look is evolutionary rather than revolutionary and they are right. This is a Mustang and it always will be. The tri-bar theme of Mustang legacy has been carved into the lenses and the best looking center deck medallion ever has been set in place. Yes it is not a real gas cap but it sure looks nice.

The rest of the car will be unveiled in a private reveal for Mustang fans on Tuesday the 18th in southern California among many of the Mustang celebrity elite. The following morning on Wednesday the 19th the Mustang makes its official debut. We will be on-site at both events to bring you all the news and photos front and center. Be here!

Ford Says:

Coming or going, the 2010 Mustang casts an evocative, dramatic presence on the road. The enhanced muscular look of the 2010 Mustang carries through to the rear of the car. “It’s a huge improvement,” said Chief Designer Douglas Gaffka.

Design Manager George Saridakis and his team created a more-compact, wraparound look and enhanced Mustang’s width and stance through a new two-piece rear fascia. Reinforcing the Mustang’s heritage are the tri-bar tail lamps. The three individual red chambers, each lit with LED technology, are separated by two clear vertical back-up elements to ensure the tri-bar look is identifiable when lit or unlit. Continuing on the theme of embracing Mustang’s heritage with contemporary execution, the proud and distinctive three-piece central badge is a modern and expressive evolution of the iconic Mustang gas cap, executed in contrasting polished and satin finishes.

“We’re proud of Mustang’s heritage; it’s a fantastic car with a rich, proud history,” Saridakis said. “For the 2010 model, it was a huge challenge and also a huge honor to reference Mustang’s DNA and execute new forms in a modern way.”

The decklid spoiler is redesigned into a duck-tail form, with several options, including one that incorporates a rear-view camera, are available.

Woo-hoo! No more teasers, just the full unveil next!!!

The back end really has some unusual lines. Can't wait to see the car in person to see how it all flows. The "sucked in" tail light to decklid transition looks real sharp, but could go either way in the flesh.

Anyways, almost there... Tick... Tock...
