Mustang driver arrested for vehicular manslaughter

The driver of a silver Mustang believed to have been in an illegal street race that led to an accident that killed a 9-year-old McKinleyville girl has been arrested, the California Highway Patrol has reported.

Anthony Flores, a 19-year-old man from Eureka, was arrested this afternoon on suspicion he was driving the Mustang on Monday, when the wreck occurred east of Giuntoli Road on State Route 299. One of the two cars racing clipped a 2002 Chevy Tahoe, which went off the road, overturned and struck a utility pole. Nine-year-old Nicole Quigley was killed in the crash.

”We have located the driver of the silver Mustang,” said CHP Sgt. Brett Fabbri. “He was arrested and is in jail.”

Flores is being held on charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run, Fabbri said.

Investigators located Flores with the help of tips from the public, Fabbri said.

Jason Whitmill, 31, the driver of a second vehicle, has also been jailed, but Fabbri said no vehicular manslaughter charges have yet been filed. Whitmill is currently being held on administrative parole, Fabbri said.

Thats truly a sad story. And the problem is many 'street racers' that age and older never even think twice about what the consequences will be on illegal street racing. All it takes in one mistake in judgment and your life or somebody else's is cut short. No second chances. Sad thing is these headlines have been happening and will continue. By the time you realize street racing is dangerous, ego driven and illegal, you may be too old to have reversed the damage that was done years earlier and some never find out they made a mistake to begin with.

Doesn't matter what he was driving, he deserves what he gets and probibly more. Street racing is stupid, yes, but I would be a complete hypocrite if I told you that a Camaro lining up at the stoplight isn't gonna get a chance to see my bumper. I guess anything can happen, but alot of it is knowing when enough is enough. You know in a few seconds if you won or lost a race, but some people won't let go, and try to turn it into a battle of courage rather than a battle of cars. That's when the shit hits the fan. I don't see a quick stoplight battle between a couple of cars as crazy, but two guys racing at triple didget speeds on public roads pisses me off... Especially if I'm losing!LOL
